Advanced US Training Success For British Dentist

Wed, 12 Nov 2008

A North East-based dentist has become the first UK dental practitioner to graduate from an advanced dental training programme in the US.

Dr Ken Harris, of Riveredge Cosmetic Dentistry, has returned from Seattle, after graduating from the Kois Center, which is world renowned for its training programmes for dentists from around the world.

Dr Harris, who runs Riveredge’s centres in Sunderland and Newcastle, has become the first dentist from Britain to graduate from the prestigious centre.

Six trips to the Seattle-based centre in the past 18 months were required in order to complete all the modules of the Masters curriculum, which included cosmetic dentistry, implants, periodontics and occlusion, along with general restorative dentistry .

He commented: "Dr Kois is a worldclass teacher, and I initially travelled to Seattle intending just to study occlusion, but such was the quality of the teaching I was hooked. I just had to complete the entire process, preferably as soon as possible."

"It has cost more than £50,000 to complete, but it has been worth every penny."

He added: "Being the first UK graduate maintains the position of Riveredge right at the top of the tree in UK dentistry ."

Dr Harris is now eligible to sit the mentor exam next July. Dentists who pass the examination will be invited to join the Kois Center Mentor programme and become involved in teaching future Seattle delegates.
