A new study has revealed that dental fillings could become loose as a result of high mobile phone usage.
Research carried out by an Iranian university found that the electromagnetic radiation emitted from mobile phones can cause the mercury in fillings to loosen and be released.
The findings from the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran were based on the amount of mercury present in the urine of 14 students after they had each used a mobile device.
The researchers explained: "The microwave radiation emitted by mobile phones has a significant impact on the release of mercury."
"The reason for this appears to be that the sealing components used to shield the rays are the same used to shield the fillings in teeth, causing the mercury to become separated."
