GBP2.7m Boost For NHS Dentistry In West Kent

Tue, 12 May 2009

Access to NHS dental care in west Kent has been boosted by £2.7million of additional funding, according to a report by Kentnews.co.uk.

NHS West Kent said the investment would benefit thousands of people from Aylesford, Dartford, Longfield, Gravesend, Maidstone, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Swanley.

The majority of the investment will go towards ensuring more patients have access to general dental procedures such as check-ups, fillings and root canal work, the report said.

It added that funding will also be invested in more complex orthodontic procedures such as teeth-straightening for patients across west Kent .

John Lynch, a dentist from Gravesend, said: "This is a major investment aimed at making sure that residents of west Kent have access to any NHS dental treatment they may need, when they need it."

"Having regular check-ups is vitally important," he added. "It could save you money, save your teeth and even – through early detection of problems such as mouth cancer – save your life."
