A new campaign is underway in Staffordshire aimed at raising awareness of access to NHS dental care in and around the towns of Cannock and Stafford.
‘Why go miles for your smiles’ has been launched by the South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) in an effort to promote the range of NHS dentists currently taking on patients and to stress the importance of having a regular dental check-up .
The innovative campaign will also provide prospective new NHS patients in the towns with advice and guidance on dental treatments .
According to the South Staffordshire PCT, there are six dentists in the Cannock area currently signing up NHS patients and a further three dentists in Stafford with spaces available.
Jim Barlow, head of Primary Care at the PCT said: "There is the perception locally that an NHS dentist is like gold dust to find and this is simply not the case."
"In and around Cannock including Hednesford, Great Wyrley and Heath Hayes we have six dentists taking on new patients immediately."
He added: "It is important that people don’t wait until they get toothache before going to a dentist when they can visit a local NHS dentist to get a check-up and avoid unwanted pain and discomfort."
