More and more adults across the UK are choosing to have braces fitted in the run-up to Christmas, according to a dental expert.
Prosthodontist Dr Farid Monibi, principal specialist at Central London dental practice 76 Harley Street, said he has seen a rise in the number of adults booking brace fittings in the weeks leading up to the festive season.
He explained that many people are paying for dental braces for their partners with Brits "increasingly recognising the gift of the perfect smile".
"Husbands are buying their wives braces for Christmas and vice versa," he said. "We have even had one teenager arrange for her Mother to be fitted with them as a Christmas present ."
"Our teeth our central to the way we feel about ourselves, they determine how much we smile and how others see us."
Despite the tough economic climate, Britons now spend around £350 million a year on dental treatments with many parents having treatment carried out at the same time as their children, according to latest industry figures.
"Parents are seeing the benefits braces are bringing their children, and are asking themselves why they aren't doing it as well," added Dr Monibi, who specialises in minimal intervention and reconstructive dentistry .
"A beautiful smile is good for everyone's self confidence, young or old."
