London Dentist Heads To India To Help Slum Children

Tue, 22 Sep 2009

A west London-based dentist has quit her job temporarily to carry out voluntary charity work in India .

Kavita Verma, manager at Sparkle Dental Boutique in Hanwell, west London, has left the rest of the practice team behind to help the Children Walking Tall charity provide food, shelter, medical care and education for slum and street children in Goa .

In July, team members at the dental practice, including sister and principal dentist Sunita Verma, crossed the bridges of London from Battersea Bridge to London Bridge in aid of the UK charity .

Kavita explained that the dental team chose the Children Walking Tall charity after research showed that "most of the monies collected were actually getting to the children that needed it most and making a difference at grass root level".

The Sparkle Dental Boutique has won a number of awards in recent years, including UK Best Team in last year's Dentistry awards.

The practice was also recently voted finalists in the Customer Service Award category at the North and West London Business Awards 2009, which are being held on Friday 25 September at Wembley Stadium.

Commenting on the ceremony, Sunita Verma said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Sparkle and the team to be recognised within the business world in our local area."

"To be acknowledged for our continued hard work and unwavering determination to give our patients the ‘Sparkle experience’ will be a great honour."
