A homemade video of a boy recovering from a trip to the dentist has generated some £65,000 for the boy’s family, it has been revealed.

According to dentistry.co.uk, the YouTube video was ranked as the site’s second most watched video of 2009 and has racked up more than 56 million views to date.

The video – shot by the seven year old's father David DeVore – is titled ‘David After Dentist'. It shows Mr DeVore’s son in the back of the car feeling disoriented after some dental treatment . The child tells his father that he ‘feels funny' and wonders if he will ever feel normal again.

The short film became an instant hit, amassing over 5 million views within the first week of going online.

Mr DeVore revealed that the video has since netted his family more than $100,000 (£65,000) thanks to a lucrative YouTube advertising partnership, as well as licensing deals and merchandise.

He added that $6,000 has been donated to children's dental charity Operation Smile, which sends volunteer medical professionals to India to provide free reconstructive surgery for thousands of children suffering with a cleft lip and palate.
