Birmingham Dentist Faces Jail For Fraud At Droitwich Practice

Tue, 13 Jul 2010

A dentist from Birmingham has been found guilty of two charges of conspiracy to defraud patients into paying inflated prices at his dental practice in Droitwich, Worcestershire.

Ikhlaq Hussain was accused of overclaiming some £130,000 from NHS patients between April 2002 and March 2006 following an investigation by the NHS Counter Fraud and Security Management Service.

The 38-year-old was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court and could now face time in jail. He is due to be sentenced next month.

Mr Hussain’s partner, Jaspal Bachada, of Stourbridge, has already admitted fraud.

The court heard how the two men owned a practice in Blackfriars Avenue, Droitwich between April 2002 and 2006.

During this period, the pair advertised for patients on the NHS, but then gave them dental treatment choices which were private. The patients paid for the treatment unaware that is was not standard NHS care .

Both Hussain and Bachada have been suspended from practice by the General Dental Council (GDC).
