A dental practice in Surrey is offering free patients free oral screening checks as part of November’s Mouth Cancer Action Month.
The Montrose Smile Studio, in Whitton, is using the slogan "if in doubt, get checked out" to raise awareness of mouth cancer and the importance of screening tests and early detection of the disease.
Free examinations are being offered all this month and the surgery is also providing patients with leaflets and information about the causes and symptoms of mouth cancer .
Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, which runs the national Mouth Cancer Action month campaign, said: "We are delighted Montrose Smile Studio has joined the many schools and health professionals promoting Mouth Cancer Action month."
He added that people can reduce the risk of developing oral cancer by booking check-ups with their dentist every six to twelve months, making positive changes to their lifestyle, and keeping an eye out for early warning signs of oral cancer such as slow-healing ulcers, red or white patches in the mouth and unusual swelling or lumps in the mouth or throat.
