British dental insurance customers who have cover for their family have been urged to make teeth-brushing an interactive activity for their children.
According to mouthwash maker Dentyl Active, it is important to actively encourage young people to brush their gnashers properly from a young age.
Periodontologist professor Robin Seymour explained that both parents and dentists should give kids a physical demonstration of how to clean teeth properly and encourage them to stick with it into adulthood.
"Once you brush your teeth in a certain way, if it is not the most effective way of brushing, it is hard to break out of that practised routine technique to improve it, so getting it right at an early stage is important," he said.
The expert added that giving children an alcohol-free mouthwash in a flavour they like can also help boost oral hygiene and save dental insurance customers money in the long-run.
"Often the taste of toothpastes and mouthwashes can put kids off from carrying out a thorough oral care routine," he claimed.
Meanwhile, tomorrow (June 15th) marks the end of the British Dental Health Foundation's National Smile Month.
