More people may be tempted to take out dental insurance after a new study revealed many believe the standard of NHS care has dropped in recent years.
A survey by Simplyhealth found that people are finding it easier to access NHS dental treatment, with ten per cent fewer people now struggling to find a NHS dentist this year than in 2010.
However, the price of increased availability appears to be a drop in standards, with 18 per cent saying the NHS does not cover as much as it used to and 17 per cent claiming they do not receive the same level of treatment.
Furthermore, 40 per cent of those polled said they had been discouraged from visiting their dentists because of the cost - another factor that could spur some to take out dental insurance.
Practicing dentist and Simplyhealth's dental advisor Michael Thomas, said: "The perceived drop in the quality of treatment that patients receive is really unfortunate as the NHS is doing such a good job of increasing the number of people its dentists see."
