Remember to Maintain Your Dental Health

Thu, 22 Sep 2011

Dental health is a highly overlooked aspect of overall health care .

In the USA, the surgeon general has asked the nation to promote oral health awareness, particularly the oral health needs of older people and children.

Diseases which emanate from your oral cavity impact upon your entire health and wellbeing throughout life.

Often we consider that 32 teeth in our mouth means good oral health, however, this is not necessarily true.

There is a connection between good dental hygiene and your health. Our mouths are havens for bacteria.

It is, in fact, one of the most bacteria full parts of our body.

The majority of our oral bacteria is not problematic. Yet for the unlucky ones out of us dental hygiene oral bacteria does become a problem. In the USA dental disease meant more than 164 million hours of work were lost in 2010.

In the United States, for each adult with medical insurance, there are three adults without dental insurance.

The state of the American economy is such that those who live at or above the poverty level are doubly likely to report a dental visit in the last 12 months than those who live below the poverty line.
